Review - Emma Elite ThermoSync Topper
I love my attic apartment, with high ceilings, tall windows, and lots of natural light, but to be honest - in the summer, the temperatures are a pain in the ass. Luckily it is a great time to be alive, where Facebook and Instagram know what product you need before you know that you absolutely need it. Some shady shops are advertising for their overprized, maybe dropship, products, and even if they offer PayPal as a somehow secure payment provider, I want to save my time trying to return the product if it doesn't fit my needs.
Already in the early summer weeks, the temperatures can reach ~30° C, and even the famous German "Stoßlüften" right after "Feierabend" doesn't significantly lower the result on the thermometer of the bedroom. Last year I shot a mobile air conditioner for two weeks until I returned it for not providing enough cool air but a lot of noise. Don't get me wrong, it was nice when you entered the apartment, and you definitely felt a difference - but not worth the static sound and the charge on the electric bill.
So this year, Instagram provided me with an ad for a water-filled bed topper with active cooling; or heating for the winter months. So not only my computer received a custom water cooling solution, my bed will be too. Talking about shady shops earlier, the company providing this "godlike" product idea is well known for their mattresses, and they offer 100 nights of trying it out. We are talking about the Germany-based shop Emma.
In the image above, you see how it (should) work. The bed topper is pretty flat and has built-in plastic tubes that connect to the climate device - no electricity inside the topper. I already spoilered my rating, but there is nothing positive to say about the product. This may have started already with a bad omen when the delivery driver dropped the parcel off at the wrong house, resulting in a wait for two more days.
Talking about the product: The setup is relatively easy if the pump in the device starts distributing the water. After some negotiations, I won, and it flooded the inside of the topper. Men usually don't read manuals, but giving it a scroll, I was shocked that a German company couldn't provide error-free and clear directions. I didn't expect a completely silent device, but this is just too loud for something designed for the bedroom to provide better sleep. The product information state 41,7 dB, and they advertise that it is quieter than a climate device. "Yeah - but that provides at least a result."
So what? You have the product. At least try it out before some early judgment. My plan was to run the device for some hours before going to bed, but unfortunately, having the wider version, it seems that the cooling device is too weak, and even after running it for almost 12 hours straight, it was not cold enough. The last two facts are about comfort. First, you can feel the tubing when lying in bed; second, you feel really uncomfortable knowing that you paid 374 € for a China gadget. But currently, you can get a discount of 20% if you are willing to try.
:( loud
:( not providing enough power
:( uncomfortable
:( expensive
